= happy in a more fundamental sense, e.g.
ein glückliches Leben = a happy life
eine glückliche Ehe = a happy marriage
froh
refers to a more temporary happiness, joy or relief, e.g.
Ich bin froh, dass du da bist! – I am happy you’re here (today, just now).
Ich bin froh, dass die Prüfungen vorbei sind! = I am happy/relieved the exams are over.
